Chapter 15
Althea’s eyes darted around the room. “Are you sure it’s okay for me to be here?” she asked.
Nekros chuckled as he grabbed a large duffle bag from the closet and began to fill it with clothes. Nekros needed to stop by his apartment to get more clothes and some other things.
“It’s my apartment too. Why wouldn’t it be fine.”
Althea tangled her fingers together uneasy. “I don’t want to intrude…”
“My roommates aren’t home. How can you intrude if it’s just the two of us here?”
Nekros walked to the bathroom to grab some of his toiletries. Althea continued to play with her fingers. The letters ‘Ch’ in gold filigree on a postcard peeked out from her coat pocket. Nekros returned from the bathroom and shoved the items into the duffle bag. In a fluid motion, he zipped the bag. He looked around the room, pondering on what else he should take with him.
“What’s that?” Althea questioned.
Nekros peered at her, confused. “What’s what?”
Althea pointed a finger at the object in question. Nekros followed her gesture. “Oh! That’s my doorway workout bar.” He sauntered over to it and picked it up.
Althea’s furrowed brow caused him to laugh a little. He carried it passed her and positioned it over the doorway to the bathroom. He gripped the curved handles on the side and tucked his legs under him. He then proceeded to perform pull-ups in the door. After the fifth pull-up, he dropped his legs to the ground and released his hold on the handles.
“See?”
A fleeting image appeared in Nekros’s mind. He imagined Althea holding onto the bar with her legs wrapped around his neck as he buried his face between her legs. The mental image sent a jolt down to his nether region.
“Nekros? You, okay?”
Nekros shook the mental picture away as something to try for another day. “Yup!” He reached up and removed the workout bar from the door and handed it to Althea. “Mind carrying this for me?” he asked.
Althea nodded and grabbed the item, a look of surprise from how lightweight it was. Nekros slung the duffle bag over his shoulders.
“I think I have everything. Let’s go.”
When the duo left Nekros’s room, his roommates Blaze and Nick entered the apartment.
“Hey, bro! Long time no see,” Blaze greeted. Nick’s mouth opened to welcome his roommate back home but paused when he saw the duffle bag.
“We need to talk,” Nick voiced in a low tone.
Nekros tilted his head to Althea. “Go ahead and head down without me. I’ll meet you at the car.”
Althea nodded. As she skirted past Nick, she felt his adverse eyes burn holes into her back.
Once Althea was out of the apartment Nekros turned his attention to Nick. “What’s up?” The tone was meant to be inquisitive but came out with more hostility than intended.
“What’s up? You’re ditching us for a girl!” Nick growled irritated.
“What can I say, I prefer homecooked meals over constant takeout food,” Nekros joked.
Nick gritted his teeth. “The saying goes ‘bros before hoes’ and you’re leaving your bros in the dust.”
Blaze held his hands up, shook his head from side to side, and backed away from Nick. Nekros could tell that Blaze wanted nothing to do with the conversation.
“I’ll offer you the courtesy to apologize for insulting Althea,” Nekros scolded with a hint of his southern accent.
Blaze’s eyes widened at the change in Nekros’s speech and the flicker of anger in his baby-blue eyes. Nick either ignored the change or didn’t notice at all.
“You’re picking an ugly wallflower over us, the guys that have been through everything with you!” Nick partially screamed.
Blaze moved to position himself between Nekros and Nick. His right arm stretched out with his fist touching Nick’s chest. His charcoal eyes narrowed on Nick. “You don’t want to do this.”
“I suggest you take his advice,” Nekros insisted.
“Why would I be afraid of a country bumpkin desperate to get his dick sucked off by a bitch one DNA strand away from being a mermaid.”
Nekros punched Nick in the jaw and sent him flying into the door. Blaze shook his head with disappointment.
“I fucking warned you,” Blaze mumbled.
“I gave you the chance to apologize. So, stay down, if you know what’s good for you,” Nekros seethed, his southern accent in full swing, as he stormed out of the apartment.
