Chapter 11
Althea blinked the sand from her eyes. The first thing that she focused on was a mop of black hair. Memories of last night floated into her mind. A blush and a small smile crept over her face. She slowly got up from the couch, making sure she didn’t wake up Nekros. It was when she stood up that she realized that she was wearing Nekros’s shirt. She pulled the shirt up to her nose and inhaled their mixed scents, mint and wood smoke. The smile widened. She tip-toed to her room and changed clothes. Althea returned to the living room and saw that Nekros was still asleep. She placed his shirt, now folded, next to him. She quietly left the apartment.
Althea entered Ka-FAE and greeted Adelina. “Good morning.”
“Morning dear. What can I get for you?” Adelina asked with her thick German accent.
“I’ll have two chocolate mint frappes and two Bavarian crème doughnuts, please.”
Adelina turned to make the drinks. Althea grabbed her phone from her pocket and texted Nekros.
Althea: Making a quick breakfast run. See you soon!
At the end of the text, she included a kissy face emoji. When she clicked the send button her order was placed on the counter. “Thank you! How much do I owe you?”
Adelina waved off the question. “It’s on the house.”
Althea stared at the owner confused. Adelina rooted around behind the counter for a bit and pulled out a piece of lavender paper. She handed it to Althea and scuttled to the drive-thru window to take care of the customer.
Althea scooted her stuff out of the way before she checked out the note. The note was written in Raven’s hand.
“Hey Girly! I paid for your ‘Morning after pick-me-up’ for when you and Nekros hook up. I expect a full report! Love Raven”
Althea chuckled at the note and shoved it in her pocket. She grabbed her order and quickly returned home hoping that Nekros hadn’t woken up yet.
Althea entered her home to see Nekros still sleeping on the couch. She placed the drinks and doughnuts on the coffee table. She stroked Nekros’s hair, waiting to see if that would rouse him from his sleep. When he didn’t move, she leaned down and kissed him on the lips.
“Mmm, Good morning,” he said groggy.
“Morning. I got you a coffee and a doughnut.” She gestured to the coffee table. “It’s a thank you for an amazing night.”
Nekros smiled and kissed Althea. “Glad I could make your first time special.”
Althea laughed heartedly.
“What’s so funny?” Nekros asked.
“Last night was fun but we stink.”
Nekros rolled his eyes in a joking manner. “Well, that tends to happen when you have sex.”
Althea giggled and leaned up to kiss Nekros. “You can take the first shower and I’ll wash your clothes.”
Nekros swaggered to the bathroom. When she heard the shower turn on, Althea grabbed Nekros’s pants and shirt from the living room. Then she went to the bathroom to grab his boxers. For a brief moment, she got distracted and stared at Nekros’s naked silhouette in her shower. Her eyes washed over every inch and curve. She shook herself out of the trance and grabbed his boxers.
A scream caused Althea to drop her Greek Mythology study book and sent her running to the bathroom. She busted through the door to see what was wrong. Nekros had a black towel wrapped around his hips as he stared at his reflection in the mirror.
“What’s wrong?” Althea cried.
Nekros, eyes wide turned to Althea. “My scars are gone.”
Althea cocked her head to the side, confused. “What?”
“My scars are gone!” Nekros repeated. He pointed to his left forearm. “I had a scar here from working on a barbed-wire fence.” He then pointed to his right foot. “I had a scar here from a pitchfork that pierced my boot.” He pointed to his ribs on his left side. “I had a scar here from a steer.” All the areas that he pointed to that had scars were completely gone.
Althea stared at Nekros’s unmarred body. “It must have been my necromancy. When I brought you back from the dead, it also healed and removed all your scars.” She tapped a finger to her chin in thought. “That must be the case. When I brought Raven back, there was a lot of blood at the scene and she had several scars from the accident. They all disappeared too.”
Nekros’s ears perked when he heard about Raven. He wanted to ask more about when Raven was brought back to life but decided against asking. Althea would tell him when she was ready.
A random thought came to Nekros’s mind. He loosened the towel around his hips.
Althea covered her eyes and the blush that formed on her face. “What are you doing!”
“Do I have a tattoo on my left butt cheek?”
Althea peeked through her fingers at Nekros’s naked butt. There was no tattoo. “No. Why?”
Nekros sighed a breath of relief.
“Why?” Althea repeated.
“There was a party at Blaze’s. I was an idiot and fell asleep. Which in party talk means I became a victim of their shenanigans. Nick had brought over a tattoo gun and well…they tattooed a smiley face on my left butt cheek.”
Althea stifled a laugh. “That’s a terrible tattoo.”
“I know! But at least now I can start fresh with better tattoo work.” Nekros smiled brightly at the thought of that.
