Chapter 3

Kyra smiled triumphantly. She noticed that Rae was smiling too. She pretended not to hear Rae’s compliment, even if it did make her heart flip. She walked over to one of the boxes labeled bedding. She struggled to open the box. All her knives were packed and located in a different part of the apartment. The pocket knife that her father had given her on her twenty-first birthday was somewhere that she did not know. She grabbed the apartment key and used it to cut the tape on the box. Once the tape was removed, she opened the box and pulled out a purple cherry blossom comforter, matching sheets, and pillowcases. She grabbed the sheet first then headed over to the mattress on her bed and started dressing her bed.

After her bed was made, she ambled to another box that was labeled clothes. Like the first box, she used the key to open the box and rooted around for pajamas. She grabbed the first thing she found. To her horror, it was the Harley Quinn lace tank top and panty set. She knew Rae was watching her. He had stayed silent while she made her bed. Kyra bit the inside of her cheek. She had to keep up the façade that she couldn’t see or hear him. She made her way back to the bed and dropped the clothing onto the bed.

            “What’s up?” Rae asked.

Kyra ignored the ghost’s presence and reached down to the hem of her sweater dress and hoisted it up. When the fabric was free from her body, Kyra dropped it to the floor.  She hooked her thumbs into the sides of her black leggings. From the corner of her eye, she saw Rae flail and a hint of a blush crept over his face. He turned on his heels and left the room.

Kyra let out a small chuckle when Rae was out of earshot. She continued changing into her pajamas. She debated on whether to crawl into bed or head to the living room and get a rise out of Rae. A low growl escaped her stomach, which made her decision. She headed to the kitchen to see if any boxes were labeled ‘food’. On her way to the kitchen, she passed by Rae who was sitting on the couch. Rae briefly looked up to see her then quickly turned his head away. A deep blush covered his face.

“Fuck. I thought it was bad that I peeked at you changing, but this…” Rae mumbled.

Kyra smiled at his reaction. As she checked the boxes in the kitchen, she felt Rae’s eyes lingering on her body. Unable to find any boxes with food she decided to order food with DoorDash. She sat on the couch turned on the TV and waited for her food to be delivered. Rae sat next to her and did everything in his power not to stare at her. Kyra watched Medium.

“Really? You choose to watch this of all things,” Rae groaned.

The irony wasn’t missed by Kyra. It was either this, Castle or some other supernatural show. Halfway through episode two, someone knocked on the door. Kyra paused the show and waited a few minutes before she went to open the door. A plastic bag greeted her at the front door. Kyra ate her food and continued watching her show. Since her toothbrush and such were still packed, Kyra gargled warm water for a few minutes before she crawled into bed and fell asleep.

“Good night…Kyra,” Rae said from the hallway.

“Good night, Rae,” Kyra responded sleepily.
